Rosamund Bartlett is a leading authority on the cultural history of Russia. Best known for her acclaimed biographies of Chekhov and Tolstoy, her other books include Victory Over the Sun: The World's First Futurist Opera and Wagner and Russia. Recognised also as a translator, she has published new editions of Anna Karenina and selected Chekhov stories for Oxford World's Classics. Her articles on art, music and literature have appeared in publications such as the Financial Times, the Daily TelegraphApollo and the programmes of the Royal Opera House, and she is currently writing a history of Russian modernism.
